Screen door to a weathered country store in Shelby, Texas, USA, near Fayetteville. (Built by the owner's father and photographed with permission.) An "open" sign hangs in the mirrored window, which reflects a portion of the scenery. This is actually a double door, with one section open to reveal a screen door. Visible just inside, at the top corner of the screen, is a bare incandescent bulb, adding to the charm and natural grunge.
Shelby is located where the Gulf Coast Plains of Houston, Galveston, and Katy start to merge with the rolling hills of the Texas Hill Country. I was here for a wildflower shoot, and the owner was kind enough to give me permission to photograph the store. A property release is on file.

This true aesthetic loves beautiful things, from architecture to the intricate details of flowers and plants. A native Californian who lived in Arizona before settling in Texas, I love nature, topography, and exploring small towns, looking for old buildings, unique objects, and rust. I enjoy making scenes look interesting and natural, as I saw them, and worthy of a place in your home, your office, your life. For 15 years I worked as a dental hygienist. Then I spent 25 years as an award-winning writer, graphic designer, and editorial consultant--skills I still use in this venue and in helping others with special projects. This unique background, requiring discernment and perfection, helps ensure the quality of my work. I hope you will...

I like this a lot, Connie! Lots of old world charm. Congrats on your Showcasing The South and other features. L/F
Connie Fox replied:
William, I'm so glad you like it! This store and surrounding buildings are from vanishing era. In fact, one of the rusty grain hoppers I had captured collapsed while the owner was away. She was thrilled to still have a picture of it--preserved in a box of greeting cards I had made for her, to thank her for letting me photograph her property. So bittersweet.

Terry Cobb, thank you for the feature in Seen But Not Noticed. Believe, me, this door opened for me to such a special life-experience (and sale, soon thereafter), I will never forget the owner, or her kindness. This is the kind of story about which movies are made and books are written.

Robert, thanks so much for featuring "Door to a Country Store" in FAA Featured Images! Walking through this door literally led to a sale of another of my FAA prints.

James Lanigan Thompson, those three hearts were among the nicest compliments and most effective comments I've ever been privileged to receive on FAA. Thank you so much. I need to learn how you create them. I would need an MFA behind my name in order to do so, I think. This degree in technical communications hasn't helped in that area so far. ;-)

Dan Marinescu, sending you warm thanks and appreciation for featuring one of my favorites, "Door to a Country Store," in Premium FAA Artists. So happy you like it!
