Description
Hoffstadt Creek Bridge, in the blowdown zone on the route to the active volcano Mount St. Helens, Washington, and near the debris dam built to stop the debris flow from its May 18, 1980 eruption. The bridge is part of Spirit Lake Memorial Highway (SR 504), which opened in 1992. Hoffstadt Creek Bridge, one of fourteen new bridges, is 2,340 feet (713.23 m) long and 370 feet (112.78 m) high.
The blowdown zone is an irregularly shaped area within the blast zone extending from four to seventeen miles from the crater of Mount St. Helens. In that area, trees were knocked down by the force of the eruption but were not disintegrated or carried away.
The blast zone refers to the entire area around Mount St. Helens that was affected by the heat and force of the eruption, approximately 234 square miles. It does not include the area affected only by ashfall, which included my property in Houston, Texas. The inner blast zone is the area directly to the north of Mount St. Helens and most heavily impacted by the heat and blast of the 1980 eruption. In places it extends as far as eight miles from the crater.

Dropped by to view your Hoffstadt Creek Bridge -- this appears to be a spring or summer shot. Impressive!
Connie Fox replied:
Not sure when you stopped by, Faithe, but thanks for doing so! You're right: This was shot in the summertime--late August. What a beautiful area now, but so bittersweet and sobering.
