The American flag . . . red, white, and blue against a gray and cloudy sky that obscures Mount Rainier . . . flies at half-staff as a tribute to astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first man to set foot on the moon. Thanks, Skip, for such an astute comment. I was indeed pleased with the lighting. Seeing people stop to pay tribute when they saw the flag could not be captured but stays with me. A memorable time for sure.

An opportune image Connie, the lighting is wonderful and is a fitting tribute! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, John, for such a nice comment. The Mountain was not "out." I think it is hidden in the gray clouds right behind the Star-Spangled Banner, which on this particular day deserved everyone's full attention. Everyone in the area simply stopped where they were to show various signs of respect to Neil Armstrong, and remember. It was quite special, and a privilege to have been there that day, and in that special light.

Susan, thank you so much for featuring "In Memory of Neil Armstrong . . . " in Women Photographers. What a privilege to have been in Paradise, Washington, when people quietly gathered to place their hands over their hearts or saluted while viewing this scene, lost in their own memories of the day Neil Armstrong became the first person to set foot on the moon. Even Mount Rainier was shrouded in gray. It should be prominent in the background.
