Description
View of the Grand Canyon, Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona, USA, from Desert View Watchtower, with my photographer-daughter by my side. The Watchtower is a 70-foot-high ancient-looking stone building on the East rim of the Grand Canyon. You will find two pictures of it, interior and exterior, in my Arizona Gallery.
At Desert View, elevation 7450 feet, the East Entrance Station of Grand Canyon National Park, Highway 64 becomes East Rim Drive. When you arrive at the Grand Canyon, Desert View Watchtower is your first stop. At this point, you will want to get out of the car and take some pictures. When we did so, initially we were disappointed, for it was raining. No reason to worry. The clouds made for more beautiful sunsets and sunrises each day of our visit. The patch of blue in this sky reassured us, and I hope you will always have your hope restored when you see Patch of Blue.
As you continue your journey of 20 more miles to Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim, where most of the lodging is located, notice Hopi House on your left. (See image in this Arizona Gallery.) It was designed by Mary Jane Colter, who also designed Desert View Watchtower, The Lookout, and Hermits Rest. In addition, she designed the renovation of Bright Angel Lodge in 1935.
A visitors map can help you identify the various buttes and peaks represented in this simple, soothing image. The darkest area is Granite Gorge, through which the Colorado River flows through the Grand Canyon for 277 miles.
Shot in the summer of 1993 with a Minolta Freedom Escort and Kodak film. Scanned in 2014 and made to look like a painting.
You will find many restored Arizona film images in this Arizona Gallery. Although they are limited to smaller print sizes, they would make a beautiful grouping for a wall of your home or office, perhaps on canvas, which arrives ready to hang. Most have been sized to fit the 5x7 greeting card format, making the cards easy to frame yourself. Most are available for rights-managed commercial use too.
