Description
Artistic rendering, based on my original film photograph, of a large fossilized tree and other relics in the Petrified Forest National Park. The park is located 22 miles east of Holbrook, Arizona, just off I-40, in Navajo and Apache counties. Here the high desert country of northeastern Arizona averages 5400 feet in elevation.
The park was established as a national monument in 1906 and named for the petrified wood, such as this huge fossilized tree, that amazed early settlers and visitors. Indian ruins and petroglyphs are also found in the park, whose scope has greatly expanded over the years and has become a favorite of paleontologists. Where the Petrified Forest ends, the Painted Desert begins.
Shot in the summer of 1993 with a Minolta Freedom Escort and Kodak film. Scanned in 2014 and given a painterly look. You will more of these restored Arizona film images in this Arizona Gallery. Although they are limited to smaller print sizes, they would make a beautiful grouping (perhaps on ready-to-hang canvas) for a wall of your home or office. They have been sized to fit the 5x7 greeting card format, too, making the cards easy to frame yourself.
