Description
Painterly landscape, based on an original photo by the artist, of the Superstition Mountains. This 300-acre Sonoran Desert state park is located five miles northeast of Apache Junction on the famous Apache Trail Highway, east of the Phoenix, Arizona, USA, metropolitan area.
The mountains are believed to be the home of the legendary Lost Dutchman Mine, from which German immigrant Jacob Waltz, or Walz, extracted a tremendous amount of gold in the 19th century. The region is also the site of prehistoric Indian dwellings and offers hiking trails for further exploration. Wispy white cirrus clouds fill the blue sky over these rugged mountains, an Arizona landmark.
Shot in the summer of 1993 with a Minolta Freedom Escort and Kodak film. Scanned in 2014 and given a painterly look. You will find more of these restored Arizona film images in this Arizona Gallery.

We drove by these rugged crags many times on our way to Canyon and Apache Lakes, Connie. I did a sunset monsoon painting of these the way we experienced them when returning to Tucson. You digital art looks quite painterly here. F/L

John Bailey, thanks for making this a favorite! I really appreciate that. I may need to have this one framed for Arizona Room. This old film image clean up well.

Connie, Love the painterly look of this great capture! I have been by this area many times on my way to Canyon and Apache Lakes. If you have a chance, there is a photo in my portraits gallery of famous Tucson Artist Ted DeGrazia who did the unthinkable in these mountains in order to protest the IRS. F/L Jerry
