Pale green Buick Roadmaster, vintage late 1940s or early 1950s, sparkles in the bright Texas sun, showing off its heavy chrome grill, front bumper, chrome-rimmed headlights, emblem, side holes, hood ornament, and white sidewall tires.
Beautifully restored by its owner. Even got to go for a ride in it. Very fun, especially with the owner's dog riding in the front passenger seat, his long ears flapping in the breeze of the open window. (No air conditioning!) My grandmother owned this model of car, in this color, and let me drive it when I first got my drivers license. With no power steering, it took everything in me to turn the steering wheel and park what felt like a Sherman tank! Memories!

A native Californian who lived in Arizona before settling in Texas, I love nature, topography, and exploring small towns, looking for old buildings, unique objects, and rust. Thank you, Gary. My grandmother let me take hers to the grocery store when I first had my drivers license. This tank was nearly impossible to park! Sure made me appreciate power steering today. A nice memory though.

Thank you, Robert, for the homepage feature of this image in FAA Featured Images! It's hard to believe my tiny grandmother drove this car, for it took amazing strength just to turn the steering wheel. Parking was nearly impossible!

Kerri, thanks so much for the feature! And Barb, I'm glad you like it too. I remember driving this model long ago. It took every ounce of strength to simply park it at the grocery store. (No power steering, and it was built like a tank--though stylish of course. ;-)
