Description
Light-filled front hallway of the vintage Renaissance Revival-style Ant Street Inn, an historic boutique bed-and-breakfast in downtown Brenham, Texas, USA. Also known as the Schmid Bros. Building, the Ant Street Inn was originally a mercantile business, built in 1899-1900. The business was started in 1880 by Josef Schmid, who later was joined by his two brothers.
Double doors with upper panels of glass lead to a large room now used for special events such as weddings and receptions. If you look just beyond these doors, you can see the words Schmid Brothers in reverse type on the exterior. An official medallion near the entrance honors this inn, with its restaurant, accommodations, and special-events center, as a Registered Texas Historic Landmark, according to the Texas Historical Commission.
