Description
Screen door to a weathered country store in Shelby, Texas, USA, near Fayetteville. (Built by the owner's father and photographed with permission.) An "open" sign hangs in the mirrored window, which reflects a portion of the scenery. This is actually a double door, with one section open to reveal a screen door. Visible just inside, at the top corner of the screen, is a bare incandescent bulb, adding to the charm and natural grunge.
Shelby is located where the Gulf Coast Plains of Houston, Galveston, and Katy start to merge with the rolling hills of the Texas Hill Country. I was here for a wildflower shoot, and the owner was kind enough to give me permission to photograph the store. A property release is on file.

Nikon D80 with 50mm/f1.8 lens, polarizer, and ND filter. In-camera colors set to Vivid. ISO 200. Minimal post-processing, for a very natural-looking image. Portrait, or vertical, orientation. This image should work especially well for a wide variety of products.
Scenes such as this are quickly vanishing from the American landscape. If a wall print is too much of a stretch, you might consider ordering my rural close-ups, landscapes, and portraits as greeting cards. FAA will even add words of your choice to the inside page, for a custom card that fits a 5x7 frame. FAA's print quality is top-notch, and so is their shipping.

I like this a lot, Connie! Lots of old world charm. Congrats on your Showcasing The South and other features. L/F
Connie Fox replied:
William, I'm so glad you like it! This store and surrounding buildings are from vanishing era. In fact, one of the rusty grain hoppers I had captured collapsed while the owner was away. She was thrilled to still have a picture of it--preserved in a box of greeting cards I had made for her, to thank her for letting me photograph her property. So bittersweet.

Terry Cobb, thank you for the feature in Seen But Not Noticed. Believe, me, this door opened for me to such a special life-experience (and sale, soon thereafter), I will never forget the owner, or her kindness. This is the kind of story about which movies are made and books are written.

Robert, thanks so much for featuring "Door to a Country Store" in FAA Featured Images! Walking through this door literally led to a sale of another of my FAA prints.

James Lanigan Thompson, those three hearts were among the nicest compliments and most effective comments I've ever been privileged to receive on FAA. Thank you so much. I need to learn how you create them. I would need an MFA behind my name in order to do so, I think. This degree in technical communications hasn't helped in that area so far. ;-)

Thank you so much, Lois. I've driven by this place so many times, but sometimes we just don't stop long enough. This time I did.

Thanks, Bob, for such an edifying comment. I agree! Old stores are such a treasure. I love to explore them. Never know what you'll find. Definitely time-capsules!

Awesome photography - There is something about old stores and all the textures that is so appealing. Like little windows in time. ... v/f
