Description
Vertical (portrait) color photo showing front architectural details of the Frank Bartlett House, built in 1883 in Port Townsend, Washington, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This image is currently not for sale, pending a property release.
Port Townsend is located in Jefferson County, and is at the northeast tip of the Olympic Peninsula on the north shore of the state of Washington, USA. The population of Port Townsend is approximately nine thousand. Its area is about nine square miles, some of which is water. Much of the architecture in the Port Townsend Historic District (declared a National Historic Landmark in 1977) dates from the mid-19th century.
Styles found in the Historic District include Gothic Revival, Mid-19th Century Revival, Late 19th-Century Revival, 20th-Century Revivals, and Late Victorian.
This home has a wood-shingle mansard roof, and looks strikingly beautiful and current. Only when the camera gets too close does the wear of 130 years tend to show, though it is well-maintained. Image was shot in early September 2012 as we were passing through town. The house caught my eye, and I thought the roof and window design, particularly above the porch, worthy of a picture. Research then led me to learn when the home was built: in 1883, more than 130 years ago.
