Description
Two preschoolers eagerly study a coprolites display at the Houston Museum of Natural Science Dinosaur Exhibit, an impressive permanent display that opened in 2012. This particular artifact came from Salmon Creek, in Toledo, Washington, USA. Toledo calls itself the gateway to Mount St. Helens.
Apologies to anyone whom these frank but accurate terms may offend, but for those unfamiliar with coprolites, they are what the dictionary calls fossilized excrement, and what kids call dinosaur poop. These particular children found it the best possible form of fun. They barely glanced at the towering, painstakingly reconstructed skeletons of various types of dinosaurs that once roamed the earth. They wanted to see the coprolites. Simple things (like handprints on glass!) make kids happy.

Mariola, thank you so much for featuring "Kids in Awe" in Our 4-Legged Friends. (Thanks to the museum, too, for tolerating little handprints on the glass each time these two head straight to the coprolites.) What is it about kids and dinosaurs! So fun.

Chrisann, my sincere thanks for featuring my "Kids in Awe" in your Weekly FUN group. These little gems were actually found in a river not far from Mount St. Helens in Washington State. Thank you for giving this image, and the interesting story behind it, some exposure. Proof positive that kids are crazy about dinosaurs!
