Description
Mount Rainier as viewed from the west, photographed against a clear blue sky with low clouds hugging and hiding the famous Washington state, USA, national park and landmark--a destination for mountain climbers from around the world. Captured from the Mount Rainier Scenic Railway, and frankly not seen at the time--although I was looking for it!
Mount Rainier is a massive stratovolcano located 54 miles (87 km) southeast of Seattle in the state of Washington, United States. It is the most topographically prominent mountain in the continguous United States and the Cascade Volcanic Arc, with a summit elevation of 14,411 ft (4,392 m).
Mt. Rainier is considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world, and it is on the Decade Volcano list. Because of its large amount of glacial ice, Mt. Rainier could potentially produce massive lahars that would threaten the whole Puyallup River valley.
Photographed in late August 2012, when Washington was experiencing a severe drought. White wildflowers in the foreground and low clouds on a brilliant blue sky. This is not one of the classic views of Mount Rainier, but one that has a natural beauty of its own. Landscape orientation (horizontal) with an expansive feel as the land meets the mountain, and the mountain is enveloped with low clouds that seem to embrace and exult in its beauty.

Thank you so much, Jerry, for your generous comment. After further research, I learned that what we're seeing on the mountain are glaciers. I assumed it to be snow, and perhaps some is. Glaciers would indeed help make this a very dangerous active volcano. I also learned it used to be about 2,000 feet taller. I just replaced this image with a corrected version to repair a pixel that had failed to fire. Hope that won't affect the tweets, but it might. Anyway, thank you for liking, faving, and promoting! I really appreciate your support.
