Description
Closeup exterior view of the pilothouse, or wheelhouse, of the Tacoma, a Washington State Ferry en route from Seattle, Washington, to Bainbridge Island in Puget Sound.
A pilothouse, or pilot-house, is a glass-enclosed room from which a ship is controlled by the ships pilot. Usually it is located on the top of the largest deck or highest deck, and houses the steering wheel or helm, compass, engine order telegraph, and chart table.
