In a tropical garden, a large banana leaf serves as the backdrop for a dramatic eight-inch-long banana bud. The shadow from an adjacent leaf adds interest and leads the eye to the tip of the pendulum-shaped object, its rust-colored body covered with grayish chalky white in the lower half. The entire apparatus includes a heavily textured 3-foot-long rope-like cord from which this most-unusual bud or blossom dangles. Soon, bunches of small bananas will be seen along the rope-cord.
