My thanks to this morning's buyer from Altus, Oklahoma. May you enjoy your 10.5" x 14" print for many years to come. Oklahoma has shared much drought pain alongside Texas, so may this picture be a special blessing.

No, Delilah,I had not heard that. But it's not hard to believe, given all the losses and hardship. We were all looking for some hope, and on the morning this image was shot in Houston, we finally had a glimmer of hope. Beautiful!

Delilah Downs

Delilah Downs

Ah, Houston--yes, that does make sense. Houston and the Dallas area did get more rain, probably enough to recover from the drought, unlike 75 percent of the state. Did you know it was officially rated a worse drought than even the one during the Dust Bowl? Oh, well--this is still a gorgeous image. Here's to more rain for all of us!

Connie Fox

Connie Fox

So glad you like this image, Delilah. I simply passed along information heard in Houston. It's quite possible we have had more rain here than in Round Top, given the distance between the two. It is also quite possible that you are technically correct, and that even experts can differ.

Delilah Downs

Love this image, Laura! However . . . I must take exception to your comment that enough rain fell in the fall of 2013 to cause the meteorologists to proclaim the drought as being officially over. They did not. As a matter of fact, we are still in the grip of that drought, and have been ever since the beginning of 2010. Austin climatologists said only last month that we would need a good rain once a week EVERY week for the next 6 months to erase the drought, and as he said, we know that isn't going to happen. (Although hopes are high for a El Nino-induced rainy fall, winter and spring for 2014-15.) I hate to be argumentative at the same time I compliment such a lovely piece of art, but I simply could not let this piece of misinformation pass. So sorry!

Connie Fox

Connie Fox

Thank you, Laura. The losses have been staggering, but we're in much better shape this year--and everyone's hoping it will continue. You won't hear anyone complain here about a rainy day!

Artist's Description

ONE OF MY SOLD IMAGES, AVAILABLE AGAIN

Gulf Coast sunrise with nimbus clouds, and intense pinks and blues. Shot inland, in west Houston, right after the welcome rains came through and brought hope for long-term relief from the Texas drought. A little noise was purposefully left in order to achieve the desired effect. Image was taken in November 2011.

Though the area continued to struggle with insufficient rainfall, a little rain is always better than none. In the fall of 2013, the Texas drought was declared by meteorologists to be officially over. Enough rain had fallen in 2013 to bring Texas back to its normal levels of precipitation.

A native Californian who lived in Arizona before settling in Texas, I love nature, topography, and exploring small towns, looking for old buildings, unique objects, and rust. I enjoy making scenes look interesting and natural, as I saw them, and worthy of a place in your home, your office, your life. For 15 years I worked as a dental hygienist. Then I spent 25 years as an award-winning writer, graphic designer, and editorial consultant--skills I still use in this venue and in helping others with special projects.
