Close-up vertical color photo of an Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja spp.), a common wildflower in the snapdragon family. In Texas, Indian Paintbrush are most often found along the highways or fields and hills in or near the Hill Country. They are frequently seen mixed with, or planted in fields adjacent to, Texas Bluebonnets (Lupinus texensis, L. subcarnosus) and other wildflowers.
In cropping and processing this image as a macro, I discovered what looked like green brushstrokes on the petals. Up close, the paintbrush looks unlike anything I've ever seen before or what I expected. What I thought were holes in the petals look like brushstrokes on the paintbrush!
