Description
Close-up side shot of the nose detail of a B-17G Flying Fortress in color, showing the name Joanie painted in bright yellow on the side of this vintage aircraft. Photographed at the Wings Over Houston Air Show, Houston, Texas, U.S.A, October 26, 2013. This is the same plane featured in the other B-17G images in my portfolio.
This B-17 model, the B-17G, was used by the following squadrons of the 8th Air Force: 508, 509. 510, and 511. Posted December 31, 2013, in memory of my father on the second anniversary of his passing. He flew 31 missions from Polebrook, England, returned home unscathed, and lived to be 90. In honor of all who have faithfully served.
On behalf of the Commemorative Air Force, which produces Wings Over Houston, The Point Group has granted permission to display this and other images from this year/'s air show. My thanks to these organizations. According to Wings Over Houston, publicity for the show greatly benefits our community, so feel free to promote. Your votes, faves, and comments are welcome too.
