Description
The Pacific Princess, “The Love Boat” of television fame, docked at Skagway, Alaska. Featured here in a slightly artistic color version, with unidentifiable people boarding after an excursion.
When we cruised on her in August-September 2015, she was the smallest ship in the Princess line, perfect for getting close to the glaciers in Alaska’s Glacier Bay National Park. “The Love Boat” was a popular one-hour sitcom that began in September 1977 and ran for about ten years.
Popular and known as a little globe-trotter, the Pacific Princess was retired by the Princess Cruiseline in January 2021. An online research tool said she was scrapped in Aliaga, Turkey, in 2013, but we sailed on her in 2015 and first learned of our ship’s origins and history as we watched the video welcoming us aboard. This is a gem of a vintage ship, beautifully appointed in mahogany and brass. It was our first cruise, but before we had unpacked our suitcases, we had already decided to book her again for two trips in 2016, including the California Coast.
