Description
The concept of time travel is depicted in this unique photograph of three bronze fisherman statues greeting our cruise ship upon arrival in Ketchikan, Alaska. Image was captured with one side of the ship comprising the background (no sky), the statues of two fishermen facing the ship, and one in the foreground, having landed a fish with a pole.
This color image shows cultural contrast, plus the contrast of old and new, and includes Chinese native dress of hat and fringed coat. It appears to be a black-and-white but is actually a color image, with the historic monument to people, industry, and culture in subtle browns and tan. These colors are repeated in the railings of the ship’s balconies.
The fishermen’s attire harkens back a century or more, to when a man named Snow built a salmon saltery in 1883. The town of Ketchikan, located on the Inside Passage in southeast Alaska, was officially incorporated in 1900 and named Newtown.
Nikon D7100, Nikkor 50mm/f1.8 lens (circular polarizer) and ND filter, shot outdoors on a cloudy, rainy day with available light. No special effects.
