Dainty purple flowers, volunteers, blooming in my garden in Houston, Texas, April 2014. These perennials with large clover-shaped leaves are called oxalis debilis, or large-flowered pink sorrel. They may be commonly known as false shamrocks. Some insist they are actual shamrocks. Likely that's because the leaves, blurred here, are in the shape of shamrocks, but very large.
The flowers are tiny and delicate, pale purple with five petals, and green at the center. Every source referred to them as pink. Whatever you call them, I think they are quite beautiful against the green background, and with their dainty green centers. They have survived several harsh winters, only to reappear in early April.
These pretty perennials may have been part of the rice farm on which my former home had been built 35 years before. They were volunteers that I did not plant and had never seen on that property. They survived the Texas Drought to bring beauty to life.

This true aesthetic loves beautiful things, from architecture to the intricate details of flowers and plants. A native Californian who lived in Arizona before settling in Texas, I love nature, topography, and exploring small towns, looking for old buildings, unique objects, and rust. I enjoy making scenes look interesting and natural, as I saw them, and worthy of a place in your home, your office, your life. For 15 years I worked as a dental hygienist. Then I spent 25 years as an award-winning writer, graphic designer, and editorial consultant--skills I still use in this venue and in helping others with special projects. This unique background, requiring discernment and perfection, helps ensure the quality of my work. I hope you will...

Thanks, John, for such a fine compliment, which I was pleased to find this morning. This was a trial run with a new camera and lens, yet somehow it worked out. Don't ask me how! And the fact that these little flowers are volunteers that somehow survived the Texas Drought is a story in itself.

Exquisite sot of these delicate beauties, Connie. I grow these oxalis at home and they come into their own when seen up close, like This shot. Lovely light and detail and a great combination of ten delicate colours against the bokeh green background.......L/F
