Description
Nostalgic and beautiful still-life image of a vintage English bone china teacup in pale green and white. The intricate design features a repeating gold pattern and gold trim on the exterior, plus hand-painted flowers on the properly white interior of the cup. Blurred in the background, behind the fancy hand-painted teacup, are gold serving pieces for cream and sugar and a matching teapot for afternoon tea.
The title, "Use the Good China," comes from both of my grandmothers, who collected teacups. Life is to be lived in the moment, and visiting friends and family deserve our best. In fact, we deserve a treat too. Why save them, only to gather dust.
These elegant and beautiful serving pieces are set on a dark green jacquard table runner, reminiscent of times when beauty and refinement had a special place in daily life—and time was set aside to enjoy a cup of tea with a friend—originally at 4 p.m. because dinner was served later, around 8 p.m. In keeping with British tradition still observed today, the hostess would serve treats such as sandwiches, scones, or cake along with the tea. The idea now is to provide a little treat in the hours between lunch and dinner, or supper, and a cup of tea and some food can help.

Congratulations Connie on your feature in Women Photographers group! Makes me want to dig out my family heirlooms and do some more photos of them. Nice job! You may archive it in May Features discussion for a longer permanent record and where others will also see it in the future.
Connie Fox replied:
Thank you, Toni! I encourage you to photograph what you treasure. Doing so helped me to appreciate the beauty as well as the memories. I'll archive it as you suggested, if I haven't already done so.

Toni, thank you for the especially lovely feature in Women Photographers. I am so pleased to share this especially beautiful teacup.

Laurel, I have often wondered myself why people comment as they do. Why they buy certain pieces when there's something far better available (speaking of technical aspects in a similar scene). From my perspective, this is precisely what the contest requested . . . but nada . . .and so it goes. Your support means a lot. Thank you!
