Broccoli Floret Forming
Fine Art Photography by Connie Fox
Green macro shot of a broccoli plant forming its first head, or floret, shown here at about one inch in diameter. Several weeks later, the mature head will be ready to harvest and new florets will form. Broccoli is actually the flowering top of a cabbage. At first it looks like it's producing nothing but large leaves. Then a small floret begins to form at the center.
Broccoli is of the species Brassica Oleracea. It is often called a brassica or cruciferous vegetable from the Brassicaceae or Cruciferae family. Famed for its health benefits, broccoli's nutritional qualities include cancer-fighting phytonutrients, such as sulforaphane, and flavonoids, such as quercetin. It's a rich source of vitamin A, C, calcium, lutein (for eye health), and zeaxanthin.

This true aesthetic loves beautiful things, from architecture to the intricate details of flowers and plants. A native Californian who lived in Arizona before settling in Texas, I love nature, topography, and exploring small towns, looking for old buildings, unique objects, and rust. I enjoy making scenes look interesting and natural, as I saw them, and worthy of a place in your home, your office, your life. For 15 years I worked as a dental hygienist. Then I spent 25 years as an award-winning writer, graphic designer, and editorial consultant--skills I still use in this venue and in helping others with special projects. This unique background, requiring discernment and perfection, helps ensure the quality of my work. I hope you will...
