On the horizon line and under a huge white cloud on a blue sky in Galveston, Texas USA, the Galveston Sailboat Regatta is underway. Two dozen sailboats can be seen on the deep blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico, and an unidentifiable onlooker can be seen in the foreground. Captured October 25, 2012.
The city of Galveston is located on Galveston Island, about 45 minutes southeast of downtown Houston via Interstate 45, and is bounded by Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. A regatta is a series of boat races. The term typically describes racing events of rowed or sailed watercraft. A regatta often includes social and promotional activities which surround the racing event and, except in the case of boat type (or class) championships, is usually named for the town or venue where the event takes place.
Although regattas are typically amateur competitions, they are usually formally structured events, with comprehensive rules describing the schedule and procedures of the event....
This true aesthetic loves beautiful things, from architecture to the intricate details of flowers and plants. A native Californian who lived in Arizona before settling in Texas, I love nature, topography, and exploring small towns, looking for old buildings, unique objects, and rust. I enjoy making scenes look interesting and natural, as I saw them, and worthy of a place in your home, your office, your life. For 15 years I worked as a dental hygienist. Then I spent 25 years as an award-winning writer, graphic designer, and editorial consultant--skills I still use in this venue and in helping others with special projects. This unique background, requiring discernment and perfection, helps ensure the quality of my work. I hope you will...
