Description
One lone evergreen, offspring of a survivor, plus a colorful ridge of grasses and bright orange wildflowers, form some of the renewal that one can see at Mount St. Helens, an active volcano in the Cascade Range in the state of Washington, USA.
For designers looking for images of snowy peaks, this one provides that--as well as a stunning story widely known. It is also a portrayal of survival and fortitude in the midst of the most formidable obstacles of life.
As of May 17, 1980, Mount St. Helens was considered one of the most perfect mountains in the world. When the mountain erupted at 8:32 a.m. on a Sunday morning, May 18, 1980, it was not only shaken but reshaped by a deluge of catastrophic events. These began with an earthquake that registered 5.1 on the Richter scale.
The huge mile-wide crater, shown here with what appears to be mist emerging, was created by that eruption. The north face of the tall, symmetrical mountain collapsed in a massive avalanche of debris. This view shows the North Fork Toutle River.

Thank you, Doug Norkum, for the stunningly beautiful feature of my "Lone Evergreen - Mount St. Helens 2012" in Nikon Full Frame Cameras. It's quite an honor to see it on the homepage and share it with the world. Hoping it will provide some encouragement. If this little tree can survive and contribute in its own unique way, we can make it too. Huge thanks!

Thank you, Dan, for your generosity in featuring so many of my images. I really appreciate your having chosen this particular one, for I resubmitted it several days ago with improvements. The original was straight out of the camera, but this one captures so many more details of the topographical changes and upheaval of the volcanic eruption. Love the little evergreen standing alone.
