Graceful, fog-shrouded full-span color photo of San Francisco's iconic Golden Gate Bridge, featuring the span from the Sausalito side to the mainland.
Just above the land at center right, you'll see a low cloud of the Bay Area's classic fog. This is called advection fog, and is caused by the horizontal movement of warm moist air over a cold surface. Sea fogs are always advection fogs. Fog forms at sea when warm air associated with a warm current drifts over a cold current and condensation takes place. Sometimes such fogs are drawn inland by low pressure, as often occurs on the Pacific coast of North America, where San Francisco is located.
Shot in the summer of 2009 from a ferry near Sausalito, in Marin County. At the far left is the San Francisco mainland and Fort Baker, a former Army base and fort built in 1861. It had been converted to a resort, Cavallo Point Lodge.

This true aesthetic loves beautiful things, from architecture to the intricate details of flowers and plants. A native Californian who lived in Arizona before settling in Texas, I love nature, topography, and exploring small towns, looking for old buildings, unique objects, and rust. I enjoy making scenes look interesting and natural, as I saw them, and worthy of a place in your home, your office, your life. For 15 years I worked as a dental hygienist. Then I spent 25 years as an award-winning writer, graphic designer, and editorial consultant--skills I still use in this venue and in helping others with special projects. This unique background, requiring discernment and perfection, helps ensure the quality of my work. I hope you will...
