Description
Branches of a native Texas pecan tree (Carya illinoensis), a form of hickory, covered with golden yellow leaves of fall color in Houston, Texas. Here we get to enjoy fall colors for a long time. We don't have a lot of them, as in other parts of the country, but we appreciate what we do have. This is a real beauty, especially with the contrast of the golden leaves and the dark brown limbs. Horizontal orientation that could be used with two other images in this gallery, each of which has the look and feel of an abstract..

Photographed in late afternoon, December 21, 2013. It's Christmastime in Houston, but we are still enjoying our fall colors. Winter lasts a week or more here, but doesn't really come until January and February, when sometimes it's so mild we don't even have to wear a coat.

Judy, thank you so much for your beautiful words. In Houston, we get around to having fall when the rest of the country is shoveling snow. This was actually shot on the first day of winter, and the leaves had not yet fallen.

What a lovely compliment, Lois. I really appreciate your kind words, as well as your vote and fave.

Thank you, Pamela, for your kind comment. Actually I pulled out an idea from Ansel Adams and used a warming filter to tone down the beautiful blue sky. It gave the effect I wanted while keeping it natural-looking and in keeping with the season. Thank you for your congratulations. Much-appreciated!
