Description
Several buildings comprise a portion of the historic Paradise Inn, Mt. Rainier National Park, Washington, USA. Paradise Inn is a National Historic Landmark hotel, built in 1916 at 5,400 feet (1,645 m) on the south slope of Mount Rainier in Mount Rainier National Park.
The inn is named after Paradise, the area on the mountain where it is located. Native building materials were used including cedar shingles, native rock and weathered timbers salvaged from a fire in 1885. After 30 years of aging the timbers had developed an unusual silver patina, or sheen.
This large hotel with a prominent dormered roof was built in an alpine variant of the National Park Service Rustic style. The inn's interior features exposed log structure, with a high lobby housing handcrafted log furniture. Photographed in late August 2012, when Washington was experiencing a severe drought.
