FEATURED ON THE HOMEPAGE OF FINE ART AMERICA
Six of the iconic Painted Ladies at Alamo Square in San Francisco, a row of Victorian houses built in the 1800s. The city of San Francisco is seen in the background in this daytime photograph, cropped to the equivalent of 7x5--ideal for a greeting card.
Alamo Square is the name of a residential neighborhood and the park, part of which is seen in the foreground. The Painted Ladies, or Seven Sisters, is the term used for the row of homes adjacent to one another, featuring architecture popular from the 1870s to 1920s. A family member who played for the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra once lived in one of these homes. Her piano is still in the family.
