Description
The Lions Gate Bridge as seen from the Seawall, a scenic 5.5-mile path running along the waters of Burrard Inlet on the perimeter of Vancouver’s beautiful 1000-acre Stanley Park, the largest urban park in Canada.
The Lions Gate Bridge opened in 1938 and was known then as the First Narrows Bridge. It is a suspension bridge that crosses the first narrows of Burrard Inlet and connects the City of Vancouver, British Columbia, to the North Shore municipalities of the District of North Vancouver, the City of North Vancouver, and West Vancouver.
The term "Lions Gate" refers to the Lions, a pair of mountain peaks north of Vancouver. Northbound traffic on the bridge heads in their general direction. A pair of cast concrete lions, designed by sculptor Charles Marega, were placed on either side of the south approach to the bridge in January 1939. (Wikipedia)
This color photograph is rich with beautiful and serene stratus and low-lying cumulus clouds, hugging the mountains and echoing the lines of the bridge. Daytime image with sky, water, and mountains but no people--imparting a feeling of lush serenity through the seawall's hemlock trees that gently frame this beautiful view.
