This vertical black-and-white sepia tint photograph, shot outdoors during the day, captures the front details of an old-fashioned steam locomotive whose enclosed and open-air cars transport visitors to see Mount Rainier (elevation 14,410 feet) from its western side. The Mount Rainier Scenic Railway excursion lasts several hours, and some trips include a lakeside barbecue.
The depot is located at the tiny town of Elbe, Washington, U.S.A., west of Mount Rainier National Park and about 45 minutes from Olympia. Shot in late August 2012. Highly recommended as a fun family activity--babies, children, adults, grandparents.

Nikon D80, Nikkor 50mm/f1.8 lens, ND filter, aperture priority, hand-held, minimal cleanup, no enhancements. Color photo has been digitized to a black-and-white sepia tint, to which a little noise has been added. Gorgeous patina on all the steel elements of this image, from the body of the locomotive to the smokestacks, wheels, and rails. Exceptional image of lovingly cared-for vintage transportation still in use today.
