A beautiful Bradford pear tree with colorful red, orange, gold, and green leaves, set against a gorgeous blue sky with wispy white cirrus clouds. A natural image shot in Houston, Texas, USA, on a winter's day before Christmas.
At this time of year on the Texas Gulf Coast, many deciduous trees are in the process of dropping their leaves. I happened upon this tree just in time to catch it in all its glory. Even better, its beautiful leaves are basically in a color (red-orange) that's the direct opposite, on a color-wheel, of the blue sky. No enhancements, additions, or manipulation--just some noise reduction and a touch of contrast.
Tied for Second Place in the Christmas 2011 contest. To appear on either the front or back cover of a book, with the First Place photo on the book's cover. A Top Finisher (4th Place) in the Beauty of Autumn Contest, December 2013. My thanks to all who voted for this image.
