Description
The Legislative Building in Olympia, Washington, built in the American Neo-Classical style of architecture. Olympia is the home of the government of the state of Washington, and this is one of many buildings that comprise what is known as the Capitol Campus, a U.S. Historic District. Construction on the Legislative Building was completed in 1928, and it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
As part of the Washington State Capitol Historic District, the Legislative Building shares its Olympia location with other campus buildings, including a large domed building (also called the Legislative Building by my source) that was undergoing repairs at the time of my visit. The design of the Capitol Campus is a grand example of the City Beautiful style of the Progressive era of the early 20th Century. (Wikipedia)
This vivid black-and-white photograph is on offset frontal view of the main entrance to the Legislative Building, and includes details of neoclassical Corinthian-style fancy capitals. They differ from classic Corinthian style (Greek or Roman) in that they sit atop plain shafts rather than the fluted shafts. One prominent feature is the beautiful piecrust detail along the roofline.
Shot on a crystal-clear day in early September 2012, with beautiful white clouds in the deep-blue sky. A large tree flanks the building on one side. Image is also available in color, and a sepia (taupe) tint in which the sky is less prominent than in the other two versions.
