Description
The azure-blue waters of Lake Bennett, a large lake on the Chilkoot Trail in both Yukon Territory and British Columbia, Canada, take center stage in this beautiful color photograph. The serene lake is framed by graceful grasses in the foreground, sloping evergreen-covered land, and distant glacial peaks hugged by low white clouds. The vast blue sky matches the lake waters, and reflections of glacial peaks complete this calm, minimal scene.
Bennett, British Columbia, at an elevation of 2,785 feet, is where thirty thousand stampeders spent the winter of 1898-1899, building makeshift rafts and boats to take them across Lake Bennett and down the Yukon River to the goldfields. Try to imagine that as you view this peaceful scene with no people in sight.
