Description
As passengers on a land-and-sea cruise that began in Fairbanks, Alaska USA, and ended in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, we enjoyed various excursion options. With our ship docked in Skagway, north of Juneau, one option was the White Pass and Yukon Scenic Railway into what now is officially called Yukon (aka Yukon Territory),Canada. From the comfort of vintage parlor cars, and stops along the way, travelers can enjoy magnificent lakes such as this. I plan to add more to this gallery.
Yukon, a Canadian territory, is named after the Yukon River, the longest river in Yukon. Yukon borders the US state of Alaska to the west and northwest for 752 miles, the Northwest Territories (Canada) to the east, and British Columbia (Canada) to the south. The evergreens seen here are likely black spruce and white spruce, which are usually stunted because of the short growing season and harsh conditions. This is one of my favorite scenes from our trip to Alaska, which included portions of Canada and the Arctic Circle.
You will find more images from this day-trip through beautiful and sparsely populated wilderness land in my Canada Gallery, plus images from the entire cruise on the original Love Boat of TV fame in my Alaska Cruise Gallery.
