Description

This stunning Lake Bennett image differs from others in this series of half a dozen by featuring an island in the lake.

Again, the azure-blue waters of Lake Bennett, a large lake on the Chilkoot Trail in British Columbia and Yukon Territory, Canada, take center stage in this beautiful color photograph. The serene lake is framed by evergreens in the foreground, sloping masses of land, and glacial peaks hugged by white clouds. If you notice what seems to be a slope in the image itself, you are looking at a coastline that in this case adds some interest by refusing to be straight, a beautiful conversation piece. My editing program was adamant in its refusal to let me adjust this image even half a degree.

Several stops along these magnificent shores were part of our White Pass & Yukon Route Railway excursion on a vintage narrow-gauge train and motorcoach from Skagway, Alaska. From Skagway we crossed the Canadian border and traveled northward into the Klondike goldrush country of Yukon Territory to Whitehorse, Y.T. Gold was discovered in 1896, drawing thousands of prospectors hoping to find their own valuable vein of gold, called a Bonanza.
