Description
Rural landscape photo of a brown cow staring down the photographer while standing in front of a Goldenball Leadtree (Leucaena retusa), which he appears to be guarding on a Texas ranch. (Blurred barbed-wire fence was cloned out for aesthetic reasons.) Shot in the spring of 2012, just as Texas was beginning to recover from a devastating year-long drought.
The Goldenball leadtree bears fragrant blooms of one-inch golden globes. These small trees are native to Texas and appear throughout this natural-looking rural landscape. They grow from 12 to 20 feet high, 12 to 15 feet wide, and bloom from April to October with gold flowers. Some dead trees dot the horizon line, and a pile of cuttings is shown near the main tree.
Green grass in the pasture contrasts with a soft-blue hazy sky topped by white clouds. An unidentifiable farm building can be seen on the horizon.

Love the space and wide openness, Connie!

Thanks for mentioning that, Bonnie. In Texas, we take that a bit for granted. Thanks for the reminder!
