Description
In the song, “Deep in the Heart of Texas,” one line says, “The prairie sky is wide and high,” as shown here in brilliant blue with no clouds. This winter scene of a golden pasture and portion of a small blue lake was captured in the month of January in the rural Prairies and Lakes region of Texas.
This square-format landscape features three scraggly bare trees along a country road, framing a pasture with golden brown winter grass. No cattle; no people. A barbed wire fence is shown, with some unidentifiable buildings in the distance. The horizon depicts the flatness of the barren brown land, where this homestead touches the sky.
One sees many wildflower images of Texas in springtime. But I wanted to show the beauty of winter here, captured off the beaten track in the type of wild and rugged countryside encountered by the pioneers.
The strong pristine blues of the sky, reflected in the small pond (“tank”), and the scraggly trees along the highway, create a stunning landscape scene in this square-format image. Also available in other versions in this gallery. Each has slightly different features and could be used as a group or series. I couldn’t decide which I liked best, so I am offering them all. You will find them in this and my other Texas galleries.
