Description
A roadside field of mixed wildflowers (mostly yellow, with some blues and reds) on farmland near Brenham, Texas. Included are a wood fence and, on the horizon under a blue sky, several buildings typical of farms in this rural area. Image was taken in late March 2012 following a long, devastating drought throughout the state. These little beauties are survivors.
The wildflowers in Texas this year bloomed several weeks earlier than usual, and seem more random in their patterns. They are quite pretty and plentiful, but the drought did affect what is growing, and where. In areas showing trees, you may see some scrubby stuff that represents dead trees. It has been reported that six million trees were lost in Houston alone.

Many thanks to both of you, John and Judy, for your nice comments. I found it so interesting, John, to learn that this part of Texas (not far from home) looks like an English country meadow! I'd love to see a similar shot from England. Please let me know when you post one. I don't want to miss it. Judy, It helped to have done a little research on what to expect with this season's crop of wildflowers. That allowed me to appreciate scenes like this and not expect solid carpets of color as in years past. Lowering my expectations helped me see how much beauty was right in front of me!
