Bronze Baby Shoe by Connie Fox
One of my most treasured keepsakes: a bronze baby shoe. Designed as a pair of bookends, the other shoe was my younger brother's, so that bookend went to him. Still, I find it useful and decorative, and it brings back memories of our childhood years after World War II when the two of us were among the first baby boomers. I found the shoe that matches this--in original condition, minus normal wear-and-tear. These were the shoes in which I took my first steps.
Through the years, parents have had their children’s shoes bronzed to preserve treasured memories of the years that passed so quickly.
This image would make a lovely framed print in a nursery. Cropped to the equivalent of a 5x7 to fit the FAA greeting card format, it would work well as a card to welcome a newborn or as a first birthday card for a toddler. You can even add your own message when you order. In keeping with the theme of memorabilia preserved for antiquity, everything used in this still-life is either vintage or antique.

I'm so glad you love it, Edie Ann. In my mind, too, it's part of the décor I grew up with. Sweet memories.

Terry Cobb, thank you for the lovely feature on the homepage of Seen But Not Noticed. Until the Keepsakes contest came along, I had not taken a close enough look at this heirloom, but photography gives us a fresh view on the wonderful world around us. That's one of the reasons I love being a part of your fine group. Thank you for the privilege, and for all you do.
